My name is Jess Barreras and I am running for re-election for Board of Trustee for the Soledad Unified School District.
One of our recent accomplishments is completing the Main Street Middle School Campus. We restored the playfields in the area of the old school campus. To include four basketball courts, softball field and green space. We are currently installing 3 modular classrooms, at the High School, to be used as dry science classrooms. We are currently modernizing the old playground equipment up to current codes, remove and replace surface area, and incorporate shade at San Vicente Elementary and Gabilan Elementary. The next items we will tackle in the future are to provide increased number of shaded areas for students, incorporate trees where possible in combination with hard structures. Modernize both playgrounds at Jack Franscioni Elementary and Rose Ferrero Elementary. And the Soledad High School needs to replace original alarm system with new system that has multiple controls, including individual staff codes for accountability and complementary to alarms elsewhere in the district.
More items I am committed to are:
- Increase teacher and classified employee’s wages to retain and recruit quality school staff
- Improve student pick-up/drop-off zones and separate school bus pick-up/drop-off zones
- Improve field maintenance
- Expand high school and replace portables
