As a 25-year resident of Carmel Valley, I've seen firsthand how Cal Am's mismanagement of our water supply and the resulting costs anger and frighten friends and neighbors. Will they be forced to move from the community they love?
Not if I have anything to say about it.
The Water District Board will face some critical decision making in the next few years as they consider the possibility of a Cal Am buyout.
My training, experience, and collaborative approach uniquely qualify me to help the Board make the crucial determinations we will live with for decades.
I received a Ph.D. in marine biology from the University of California. As a research scientist, my experience taught me to analyze large and complex data sets to arrive at the correct conclusion. Data always tells a story.
In my 18 years as President and 23 years as Artistic and Education Director of Chamber Music Monterey Bay, I have developed management, financial, and collaborative skills that will be essential as we consider complex issues.
But perhaps most importantly, working with the successful Measure J campaign and the Measure O campaign that preceded it, I have gained a deep understanding of the water challenges facing Carmel and Carmel Valley, the areas I will represent.
My priorities as a collaborative member of the Water District Board representing Division 5 include the following:
I support the Water District Board's recent majority vote to send a letter to the Coastal Commission favoring Pure Water Monterey's Expansion as an affordable water supply.
It will have no environmental footprint on the coastline, does no damage to Marina's water supply, and will provide the Monterey Peninsula with all the water we need for growth for several decades.
My opponent, who currently sits on the Water District Board, has voted against the Pure Water Monterey Expansion five times, which his Board voting record makes clear.
A more affordable, environmentally responsible, and sustainable water supply is a vision most of our community shares. With your support, I will work hard to help make it a reality.
