Seaside City Council / City of Seaside
Stronger Together / ¡Juntos podemos, juntos lo haremos!
As a lifelong resident of Seaside, Alexis García-Arrazola has a special place in his heart for this community and uses his unique local lens to critically examine what Seaside needs to remain productive, inclusive, and resilient. Alexis formerly worked as a local news reporter for south Monterey county’s KRKC News and as an assistant news producer for the Spanish news station “Noticias Univision Costa Central”. In 2019, Alexis graduated from California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) where he completed a Bachelor's degree in Human Communications with a concentration in media studies and a minor in Legal Studies. Through his time at CSUMB, Alexis completed a congressional internship program facilitated by the Panetta Institute for Public Policy. Through this program, Alexis interned in Washington, D.C. under Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D-32). During that time, Alexis developed an authentic understanding of public policy and its relations to the needs of Californians. Since then, Alexis has continuously advocated for his community by working as a public engagement associate to ensure underrepresented groups are heard, recognized, and offered essential resources. Now, Alexis has strengthened his commitment to serve our community by running for Seaside City Council where he can use his unique personal and professional experience to revitalize, uplift, and empower his hometown.
Throughout the campaign trail, Alexis has witnessed the disconnect between city officials and local business owners and has pledged to foster stronger relationships within those sectors to ensure that small businesses are heard and honored. By implementing accessible bilingual support, Alexis will partner with potential and established business owners to eliminate barriers and ensure any and all questions and concerns are addressed. Using his platform as city council member, he will also encourage the council to streamline unnecessary licensing to make starting a business in Seaside more accessible to all.
As a Seaside native, Alexis values education and knows that when we invest in youth and education, Seaside and its residents thrive. Alexis believes that the time to address the systemic generational poverty is now. Seaside needs a champion that will promote educational opportunities for the youth and a council that prepares our future leaders of tomorrow for success, and that's why Alexis has vowed to donate his city pay to fund school supplies for Pre-K & Elementary School students. As council member, Alexis will also push that council carefully ensure youth recreational programs become a priority and will prioritize to bridge a gap between the city and its most vulnerable. Alexis will also work on finding viable solutions that provide interventions in early childhood education and promote healthy lifestyles for Seaside youth.
Alexis understands the realities of many Seaside families facing struggles in accessing affordable housing. Covid-19 has exposed the racial inequities in housing and health, both go hand in hand. Alexis will ensure families have adequate support for rental assistance if the pandemic persists. Alexis will work with current Seaside efforts to grow affordable housing such as in the creation of Accessible Dwelling units.
Alexis is rooted in Seaside and has proven time and again his devotion to revitalizing and re-establishing Seaside as an inclusive, safe, and neighborly community. He represents the 43% of Spanish-speaking residents in Seaside and will continuously advocate for equality for all. A community that strives in serving its residents, supporting its schools and local organizations, and recognizes one another as neighbors always willing to lend a helping hand. Over the years, Alexis has witnessed the growth and development of Seaside and plans to reinvest time and the proper resources to uplift voices and create equitable solutions to a system that has disenfranchised our most vulnerable.
